Feb 28 ~ Project 365

2 months down... 10 to go.

Although it is quite a commitment to do a Photo-a-day project, it does force you to look at things in a new creative way sometimes.. you also notice things that you take for granted everyday in the process.

You can start one at any time. If you need inspiration & encouragement, join a Flickr group (it's free)... just search Project 365 and you will find dozens to choose from. You will find yourself looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with and make some new cyber friends in the process. You can check out our Flickr Group Here

1/31 Project 365

Shoot everyday!

If you want your photography to improve shoot everyday...

Having your camera with you at all times ensures you never miss a great photo opportunity.

Shooting on a daily basis, you will find that your camera becomes an intuitive extension of your hands, you learn to modify the controls quickly.

Some days it is tougher than others, but the upside is that it forces you to be creative, and you will start noticing photo ops everywhere you go!

1/16 Lesson learned: shoot anyway

Road trip! Bummed about not being able to go on my NY trip, Todd and I headed down to North Carolina for a quick day trip. I wanted to photograph a lighthouse. After 3 hours in the car I was greeted by the Bodie Lighthouse covered in scaffolding.. disappointing, but I was there and was going to shoot a quick snapshot anyway. The silver lining is this photo later appeared in the World Lighthouse Society newsletter. So even if it isn't what you expected, shoot anyway.. you never know..

1/13 Practice Practice

Experimenting with smoke photography. If you would like to try it, here is a helpful tutorial I found on the web SMOKE PHOTOGRAPHY TUTORIAL

The hard part is getting the light positioned just right..but once you do, you can get some interesting results (and spend the better half of the afternoon playing...)

1/3 - Make it a priority...

A little bedside reading to keep me focused..

January 2 Best of Intentions

Day 2 ~ The best of intentions...

Despite my intentions to practice some "back to basics" photography exercises, Simba had other plans.. Either he loves Canon as much as I do, or needed a nap. Guess I will curl up with my new Moose Peterson book, Captured.

January 1 ~ Ready, set go...

New Years Resolutions.. a nice concept.. but following thru is another story. This year I shall not set myself up for failure.. forget diet and exercise, my resolutions all revolve around photography. Spend more time learning, shooting, organizing and post processing. I started out this morning shooting the first sunrise of the year with my friends Will and Gen down at the beach. This is a photo Will captured of me this morning.. off to a good start .. but it's only day one...
